Good to know

  • Feed meals in the crate with the door open so your dog learns it is a good place to be.
  • Never leave a dog in a parked car on a warm day, even with the windows down.
  • Flying with your dog? Check the airline’s crate requirements before buying, as they set the rules.

Common questions

What size crate does my dog need?

Your dog should be able to stand without its head touching the roof, turn around and lie flat on its side. Measure height to the top of the head or ears and length from nose to base of tail, add a few centimetres, and compare with the crate’s inside dimensions.

Is it a legal requirement to restrain my dog in the car?

The Highway Code (rule 57) says dogs should be suitably restrained so they cannot distract you or be hurt if you stop quickly, for example with a harness, carrier, cage or dog guard. Breaking the rule is not an offence in itself, but a loose dog that distracts you can lead to a careless driving charge.
