Start by allowing your pet to stay relaxed in the kennel with the door open. Only then accustom it to being placed in the closed kennel and extend the length of stay. The kennel should never be used as a punishment, as it should be a safe and positive place for your four-legged friend. Keeping a dog in a cage in a closed state is contrary to animal welfare and is only suitable for short-term accommodation for a maximum duration of 30 minutes. Consult your local legislation for the correct and safe keeping of animals in cages.

Common questions
What size crate does my dog need?
Your dog should be able to stand without its head touching the roof, turn around and lie flat on its side. Measure height to the top of the head or ears and length from nose to base of tail, add a few centimetres, and compare with the crate’s inside dimensions.
Is it a legal requirement to restrain my dog in the car?
The Highway Code (rule 57) says dogs should be suitably restrained so they cannot distract you or be hurt if you stop quickly, for example with a harness, carrier, cage or dog guard. Breaking the rule is not an offence in itself, but a loose dog that distracts you can lead to a careless driving charge.
