Food intolerances refer to all abnormal physiological reactions to the consumption of an ingredient or additive. A distinction is made between food allergies and food intolerances. A food allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to certain proteins. The reaction in the case of food intolerances, on the other hand, does not involve the immune system. Both food allergies and food intolerances can lead to skin and digestive problems, such as itching and diarrhea. In order to determine a food intolerance, it is necessary to carry out an elimination diet. This requires a diet that contains a selected source of protein and carbohydrates. Skin problems are not only the most common consequence of food intolerances, but also of flea saliva and environmental allergies. In order to optimally support skin function, a food with high-quality fatty acids should be fed. How does Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Hypoallergenic Insect support your dog? Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Hypoallergenic Insect is a specially developed high-premium complete dietetic food for adult dogs that is optimally adapted to the nutritional requirements of dogs with intolerances and dermatosis. Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Hypoallergenic Insect exclusively uses insects as a selected source of protein and quinoa as the only source of carbohydrates in order to help minimise the symptoms of food and nutrient intolerance. It is advisable not to feed common animal proteins and carbohydrates, as the risk of a physical reaction is lower than with commonly used proteins and carbohydrates. To support skin function in the case of dermatosis and excessive hair loss, Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Hypoallergenic Insect uses sunflower oil, which is characterised by a particularly high content of omega-3 fatty acids. Good to know
- If you mix wet and dry, cut both so the total equals one day’s ration, not more.
- For small dogs, trays or pouches avoid half-used tins sitting in the fridge for days.
- Check the label for ‘complete’ before feeding a wet food as the whole diet. Toppers and extras are often complementary.
Common questions
Why does wet dog food have so little protein compared with dry?
Because most of a tin is water. The analysis on the label is given ‘as fed’, including the moisture. Convert both foods to dry matter to compare them properly, and wet food often comes out as high or higher in protein.
Is wet food bad for my dog’s teeth?
It is a common belief, but ordinary kibble does little to clean teeth either. Brushing your dog’s teeth daily with dog toothpaste is the most effective home care, and dental check-ups at the vet pick up problems early.
