Mixed feeding - cleverly combined: the combination of wet and dry food takes on the positive aspects of each type of food. Wet food is particularly delicious for cats, offering vital nutrients and helping promote a high fluid intake for healthy kidneys and urinary tract. A single 100g pouch of wet food can meet half of your cat’s daily fluid needs! Dry food satisfies natural feline behaviour, allowing it to eat small portions throughout the day. It helps support dental and gum health, as well as containing a high concentration of nutrients such as protein and fibre. Good to know
- Keep fresh water within reach at all times, as dry food contains only about 10 per cent moisture.
- Switch to a new dry food over 7 to 10 days, mixing in a little more each day.
- Neutered and indoor cats usually need the lower end of the feeding guide, or a sterilised recipe.
Common questions
How long does dry cat food last once opened?
It stays safe until the best-before date if stored well, but the fats slowly oxidise and the smell fades once the bag is open, so fussy cats may lose interest. Buy a bag size you will finish within a few weeks, keep it rolled tight in an airtight container, and check the pack for the maker’s advice.
Is grain-free dry food better for cats?
Not necessarily. Grain-free foods replace cereals with other starches such as potato or peas, so they are not automatically lower in carbohydrate. They can help the small number of cats with a diagnosed grain intolerance; for other cats, the overall recipe and the right portion size matter more.
