PURINA PRO PLAN Small Mini Puppy 1 Healthy Start - Chicken has been specially developed by scientists and veterinarians to fulfil the nutritional demands of small and toy breed puppies in their first year of life. This dry dog food contains pieces of high-quality chicken meat, as well as the OptiStart formula, which is designed to provide all the vital nutrients your puppy needs for healthy development and an active life. This great-tasting dry food also includes colostrum, which is a first milk rich in natural antibodies. This can help your puppy to build up a strong immune system, preparing him for everyday life and supporting his long-term health. The included mix of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and fish oil provides comprehensive dental care and supports joint development, which is particularly important for small dogs because their shorter legs mean that more strain is placed on their joints. This kibble is ideally suited to the jaw size of small and toy dogs, and is packaged in a handy resealable bag for freshness. Good to know
- Switch foods gradually over 7 to 10 days, mixing a little more of the new food into the old each day.
- Weigh daily portions on kitchen scales. A scoop or measuring cup can be well off, and small errors add up over months.
- Keep kibble in its original bag inside an airtight bin, so you still have the batch number and best before date if there is a recall.
Common questions
How long does an opened bag of dry dog food last?
Once opened, kibble slowly loses freshness as the fats react with air. Keep the bag rolled tightly in an airtight container, away from heat and damp, and follow any guidance on the pack. If the food smells stale or rancid, or your dog suddenly loses interest, replace it.
Is grain-free dry food better for my dog?
Not automatically. Most dogs digest cooked grains well, and food allergies are more often linked to animal proteins than to grain. Grain-free recipes can suit some dogs, but if you are choosing one without a medical reason, discuss it with your vet.
