Good to know
- Keep trays away from food bowls, water and beds, and away from noisy washing machines.
- Wash the tray with hot water and mild unscented soap; avoid bleach and phenol-based disinfectants.
- If your cat avoids a hooded tray, try taking the lid off before changing anything else.
Common questions
How big should a litter tray be?
A common guideline is at least one and a half times your cat’s length from nose to base of tail, so it can turn round and dig comfortably. Measure the tray, as many products sold as large are too small for an adult cat.
Where is the best place for a litter tray?
Somewhere quiet and always accessible, away from food, water and sleeping areas. Avoid next to noisy appliances, busy doorways and glass doors where outside cats can look in. In a house with several floors, put a tray on each level.
