James Wellbeloved Adult Cat Hairball Hypoallergenic Turkey Rice is ideal for adult cats that are prone to hairball problems. Hairballs are formed when hair swallowed by your cat during grooming accumulates in the stomach and can’t pass on to the next part of the digestive system. Because your cat can’t get rid of the hair in the normal way, he or she has to vomit it out. Our Hairball formula contains 6% of natural insoluble pea fibre, which can trap swallowed hair and carry it all the way through the digestive tract and into the faeces, thus greatly reducing the incidence of vomited hairballs. Good to know
- Compare the price per kilo: economy packs are cheaper only if your cat finishes the food before it goes stale.
- Check your cat’s shape every few weeks: you should feel the ribs easily under a thin layer of fat.
- Weigh the daily ration on kitchen scales: dry food is energy-dense and a heaped scoop can be far more than the guideline.
Common questions
How long does dry cat food last once opened?
It stays safe until the best-before date if stored well, but the fats slowly oxidise and the smell fades once the bag is open, so fussy cats may lose interest. Buy a bag size you will finish within a few weeks, keep it rolled tight in an airtight container, and check the pack for the maker’s advice.
Is grain-free dry food better for cats?
Not necessarily. Grain-free foods replace cereals with other starches such as potato or peas, so they are not automatically lower in carbohydrate. They can help the small number of cats with a diagnosed grain intolerance; for other cats, the overall recipe and the right portion size matter more.
