Dogs with digestive problems, pancreatic insufficiency or gut absorption issues can struggle to properly digest standard food, resulting in poor nutrient intake and a disturbed intestinal flora. They can also suffer with vomiting or diarrhoea, which can cause your dog to lose further fluids and essential electrolytes. This can also irritate the mucous membrane in the digestive tract. Treating these symptoms over a long period of time can help to compensate for signs of deficiencies such as dehydration and emaciation. For dogs with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, these symptoms can be treated at the same time. How can Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Gastrointestinal Low Fat support your dog? Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Gastrointestinal Low Fat is a high-premium dietetic complete food that has been specially developed for adult dogs to support the nutritional needs of dogs with poor digestion or exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. The recipe contains easily-digestible meat and offal from chicken, combined with pumpkin and salmon oil, designed to avoid placing unnecessary strain on your dog’s gut and stomach. For optimum digestibility, this food can also be fed in small portions. The increased content of selected minerals can help to balance out any electrolyte losses, improving your dog’s overall wellbeing. The high moisture content of this wet food can also help to insure sufficient fluid intake. This Concept for Life Veterinary Diet Gastrointestinal Low Fat also contains mannan-oligosaccharides. Regularly consuming MOS can help to keep the bacterial population in your dog’s gut in optimum balance. The reduced fat content of the Low Fat recipe can help to relieve the digestive tract and is ideal for dogs with sensitive digestions requiring reduced-fat nutrition. Good to know
- Lift any uneaten wet food after the meal rather than leaving it down, especially in warm weather.
- Wash the bowl after every wet meal. Dried-on food quickly attracts bacteria and flies.
- Cover an opened tin and keep it in the fridge, then use it within the time printed on the label.
Common questions
Why does wet dog food have so little protein compared with dry?
Because most of a tin is water. The analysis on the label is given ‘as fed’, including the moisture. Convert both foods to dry matter to compare them properly, and wet food often comes out as high or higher in protein.
Is wet food bad for my dog’s teeth?
It is a common belief, but ordinary kibble does little to clean teeth either. Brushing your dog’s teeth daily with dog toothpaste is the most effective home care, and dental check-ups at the vet pick up problems early.
