- If you mix wet and dry, cut both so the total equals one day’s ration, not more.
- For small dogs, trays or pouches avoid half-used tins sitting in the fridge for days.
- Check the label for ‘complete’ before feeding a wet food as the whole diet. Toppers and extras are often complementary.
Common questions
Why does wet dog food have so little protein compared with dry?
Because most of a tin is water. The analysis on the label is given ‘as fed’, including the moisture. Convert both foods to dry matter to compare them properly, and wet food often comes out as high or higher in protein.
Is wet food bad for my dog’s teeth?
It is a common belief, but ordinary kibble does little to clean teeth either. Brushing your dog’s teeth daily with dog toothpaste is the most effective home care, and dental check-ups at the vet pick up problems early.
